Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights brings the stories of the world’s most notorious creators of horror to life for a few hours each event night. While attending, you’ll see haunted houses from classic horror books and movies, as well as characters and homes from some current cult favorites (such as “Bettlejuice”). And while the haunted houses and mazes are the big draw (and the main reason to investigate getting a Halloween Horror Nights early entry ticket), there are also tons of other scary (i.e.: fun) things to do at HHN 2024. It’s guaranteed to be a screaming good time!
This year, the horror begins earlier than ever before as Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights returns on select nights* from August 30 through November 3 – unleashing a new slate of frights and nightmare-inducing terror at every corner of Universal Studios Florida. While going around the Universal Studios grounds, you might run into the Halloween Horror Nights Scare Zones. These are FIVE zones specifically designed to ramp up the stalking from the scare actors to frighten you. These HHN Scare Zones all have themes with different creatures, ghouls, and psychos to scare you all night long! Below is a list of scare zone themes from last year so you can get an idea of what to expect in 2024.
*Tribute Store Details for 2024 have not been released yet
The Tribute Store has become a tradition over the years, offering a highly themed shopping environment for both new and diehard fans. The team behind these stores emphasizes great attention to detail, creating an experience many guests enjoy. From nods to previous years and even some inside jokes, this specialty-themed shopping experience has become somewhat of an event icon itself.
The Tribute Store has also grown even bigger than just Halloween Horror Nights, changing themes and merchandise each season throughout the year. It continues to grow in popularity with visitors to the park, with many guests coming just to see the new theme each season.
Honoring the film’s 40th anniversary You’ll jump through the movie screen of the original 1984 film and walk through some of your favorite scenes like the New York Public Library, the Temple of Gozer and more.
A Quiet Place: Day One which is set to be released in late June appears to be most likely. The horror movie franchise starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. With a third film in the series premiering this summer, it would make sense for there to be a house inspired by the franchise at HHN this year.
The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 American psychological horror thriller film. Will we be seeing Dr. Hannibal Lector or Buffalo Bill?
Could we see Five Nights at Freddy's in the Blumhouse house? Could we see a return of Jack The Clown? I will keep you updated as we head towards the highlight of the year for many, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice is rumord to be a house for Halloween Horror Nights 33, and I'm looking forward to visiting It!
Slaughter Sinema 2 will be a sequel to the popular house first featured at HHN 28 in 2018. Slaughter Sinema will introduce fans to eight new fake movies. If you're dying for a b-movie horror marathon, head to the Carey Drive - in. Scream through scenes from creature features, grindhouse gore, spaghetti westerns and more.
Goblin’s Feast will tell an original story, not based on an existing horror movie or franchise. Universal did not mention if Goblin’s Feast is connected to any previous HHN lore. In this house you will visit the goblin village where a lavish feast is being prepared for goblins , Orcs, hobgoblins and witches and you're the main course!
“You’ve been invited to chaperone a field trip to a candy factory. The deadly delicious treats turn the kids into sugar-fueled fiends.”
Major Sweets Candy Factory will extend a story that began in 2022 at HHN31. During that year’s event, a scare zone called Sweet Revenge featured original characters Major Sweets (pictured in the HHN33 haunted house logo below) and Miss Treats. In 2022, Universal described Sweet Revenge this way: “Set against the backdrop of a 1950s movie theater, a family tragedy turns a young boy’s sweet demeanor to bitter vengeance. The price of admission for this showing? Your life.”
You decide to visit the new folklore museum exhibit, The Rotting Stone, when an evil escapes from within, destroying everything in its path!
MONSTROUS, the Monsters of Latin America with La Muerte as your guide you'll be begging for piedad from these three terrifying Legends. Tlahueipuchi, La Lechuza and El Sibon.
“You’re invited to the Barmy triplets’ birthday bash. But beware, they celebrate by recreating their family’s murders. Prepare for a gory gathering.”
If you’re visiting the 2024 Halloween Horror Nights celebration, you might be looking for things other to do than just the haunted houses. There are two shows that are performed each night at Halloween Horror Nights and you can expect them to scare your socks off! The Halloween Horror Nights shows really highlights the spooky entertainment that is perfect for those who want to experience the horror, but maybe not get chased or scared inside of the houses.
*These shows are anticipated to return for 2024 due to the popularity at the event in previous years*
Longer answer: Halloween Horror Nights is a teenager and adult-oriented event featuring simulated violence, fake blood and guts, scantily clad men and women, startling imagery, loud noises, strobe lights, chainsaws, and more. It is the whole works, folks, and only you know what your child can handle.
If you are taking a pause to wonder if your child can handle HHN, the answer is probably no. Instead of testing their fortitude at HHN consider going to a Horror convention or a local, small business haunted house first to gauge their reaction. Some kids can handle it, some cannot. That $80 plus event ticket might be better spent on a babysitter.
What rides are open for Halloween Horror Nights:
Due to the popularity of the haunted houses, wait times are minimal for all of the daytime rides, so you’ll have more time to buy all that Halloween Horror Nights merchandise. Transformers, Harry Potter, and Fast & Furious do close early on most nights.
Another popular question asked is, which roller coasters are open during Halloween Horror Nights? And, Universal will keep Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Revenge of the Mummy and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts open during all HHN events.
Another popular question is, does Halloween Horror Nights include the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? And as a general rule of thumb Universal does keep Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts open in Diagon Alley until 9:00 PM during most Halloween Horror Nights events. It is important to note that the Hogwarts Express and Olivanders Wand Shop are not open during Halloween Horror Nights.
Diagon Alley closes to regular daytime guests at 5 p.m. during Halloween Horror Nights events. Anyone with a Halloween Horror Nights ticket can wait in the designated holding area in Diagon Alley and enjoy Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts as part of the Halloween Horror Nights event until 9:00 PM.
Halloween Horror Nights typically start at 6:30 PM.
Halloween Horror Nights typically end at 1:00 AM on select weekdays and 2:00 AM on weekends.
Universal takes the safety of its guests very seriously, and therefore it can take some time to get through security. For this reason, I suggest getting to the park 30-45 minutes before the event begins. Universal does tend to open the gates early on most nights.
There are a few different ways to enter this special event but the most important thing to keep in mind is the security and new safety procedures.
Here are the different options for guests entering HHN 2024:
Guests who are staying at any of the Universal Studios hotels will also have access to a VIP entrance gate. This gate is open to hotel guests until 8:00 p.m.
Event Restrictions: No costumes or masks will be allowed into this event.
Halloween Horror Nights Hours: The 2024 Halloween Horror Nights events begin at 6:30 pm and closing times will vary based on the night.
Age Limit: Although there is no official age limit this event may be too intense for young children under the age of 13.
WARNING: EVENT MAY BE TOO INTENSE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN AND IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 13. NO COSTUMES OR MASKS ALLOWED. Separately ticketed event. Event occurs rain or shine. No rain checks, returns or refunds. Dates, times, attractions and entertainment are subject to availability and may change without notice. Free self-parking after 6pm is not valid for Halloween Horror Nights™. Other restrictions may apply. Universal elements and all related indicia TM & © 2022 Universal Studios. All rights reserved.
The short answer is yes. Halloween Horror Nights does require special Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights tickets for entry into the park after 6:30 p.m. A regular Universal Studios Ticket will NOT give you entry into Halloween Horror Nights. You have to purchase a HHN regular admission ticket if you only plan on attending HHN.
I highly recommend you purchase your Halloween Horror nights tickets 2024 in advance so you can save time and money before getting to the park. More on that below. Also, no outside drinks are permitted—although Halloween Horror Nights alcohol will be served at select locations during certain hours, subject to availability.

If you’re trying to hit every stop on the Halloween Horror Nights map, including all ten haunted houses, I highly recommend the Halloween Horror Nights express pass. Just like the regular Universal Express pass, guests will be able to skip the regular standby line and jump onto a shorter line. With this pass, you’ll find much more time in the night to peruse the event and get yourself all the Halloween Horror Nights food menu items and Halloween Horror Nights merch that have been haunting your dreams.
*Due to the popularity of some haunted houses, your wait can still be over an hour, especially on the weekends.
Your Halloween Horror Nights tickets fast pass will allow you to skip the lines on the regular rides and mazes that are open. The Halloween Horror Nights fast pass allows you entry to each haunted house, attraction, and maze one time per night.
Guests will receive all of the benefits as the HHN Express pass, but they can experience all attractions as many times as they want. Universal released a very limited amount of these passes last year for each event night. You can only purchase these passes in person at the front gate in the park.

Very very little to none. During normal park operating hours the haunted houses, shows, and scare zones are closed. Scary or gory props used during the event will be hidden and there will be no scare actors in the park. The scary stuff starts after the park closes and goes through an hour-long transformation into Horror Nights. Feel free to tour without fear.
Do not fret, there is still plenty to do around the resort. Islands of Adventure will remain open until 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. on event nights, a perfect time to get a night ride on Hagrid. CityWalk’s restaurants, movie theater, and Hollywood Drive-In miniature golf remain open until late; check the Universal Orlando website for hours.
Please note that free self-parking after 6:00 p.m. is not valid on Halloween Horror Nights event nights. Expect to pay the normal Universal Studios parking fee Halloween Horror Nights
Q: Is there early park admission to HHN 2023?
Yes, there are a few ways for guests to gain early entry to HHN. I suggest checking out my complete Halloween Horror Nights early access guide!
Q: What can I do once Universal Studios Florida closes for HHN?
Do not fret, there is still plenty to do around the resort. Islands of Adventure will remain open until 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. on event nights, a perfect time to get a night ride on Hagrid. CityWalk’s restaurants, movie theater, and Hollywood Drive-In miniature golf remain open until late; check the Universal Orlando website for hours.
Q: When does HHN close?
Halloween Horror Nights closes at 1:00 a.m. during the first few weeks of the event and 2:00 a.m. during the remainder of the event. Most shows perform their last performance around 90 minutes before park closing and scare zones start to clear out their actors 30 minutes prior to close.
The situation is slightly different for haunted houses. Most of the time Universal Orlando will let guests in line at the park close walk through the houses. Sometimes due to staffing or technical issues a house might close at event close, though this is infrequent.
You can also start to get into the Halloween Horror Night spirit with all-new merchandise collection that has launched - featuring a t-shirt, hat and tumbler celebrating that Universal Orlando is "Where Horror Lives." the collection is available now at https://shop.universalorlando.com/shop/ and at the Five and Dime at Universal Studios Florida as well as All Hallows Eve Boutique at Islands of Adventure.
