If your family is planing a trip to Universal Studios Florida or any other attractions in the Orlando area and enjoys waterparks, a day at Volcano Bay is a worthwhile splurge. Anchored by an immersive South Pacific theme, this 25-acre waterpark is packed with attractions for all ages, new technology, virtual queueing, spewing waterfalls, several slides and a 200-foot-tall, man-made volcano presides over it all. Whether you're partial to floating idly down a lazy river or dropping through a trap door into a 70-degree tube slide, here's what you need to know to make the most of your day at Universal's Volcano Bay.
On arrival at the park, each guest receives a TapuTapu digital wristband. You then choose the ride you want to go on and tap the band on the totem located at the front of that attraction. The band then tells you when to come back to ride (similar to an old-school Disney's FastPass concept). You can join the "virtual line" of your chosen ride and in the meantime, enjoy the restaurants, rivers and pools, or jump on a waterslide that's listed as "Ride Now!" I love the convenience of the Tapu Tapu system, which makes wait times almost nonexistent.
Nesteld within the Volcano Bay park, seating areas are tucked into little enclaves complete with palm trees, umbrellas and sand. (Ground-level sprayers along walkways keep feet cool and clean.) The grounds are beautiful with bamboo, thatch, totems and lush tropical vegetation: You'd never know a busy interstate is just out of sight.
There are three different villages that encompass their themes and attractions. In comparison, I like to think of the Volcano Bay Villages to be similar to the lands in either Universal theme park. Either way, it is really easy to organize your water park trip if you can see where each of the Volcano Bay attractions are.
The first of Volcano Bay’s two leisure pools, The Reef is five-and-a-half feet deep and sports its own private waterfall. The real stand-out feature here, however, is watching riders shoot down the Ko’okiri Body Plunge, whose clear plexi tube snakes through the pool.

River Village is billed by Universal as Volcano Bay’s something-for-everyone area.
Here you can catch the far-reaching lazy river (which, takes you right through the Krakatau volcano itself); let the kiddies romp through a series of water play areas; and even hop on either a family raft ride or a unique aqua coaster.
Rides and attractions at this location:
Encompassing an “action-packed” river, Rainforest Village is mostly comprised of thrill rides, including a raft ride that features zero-g hang time.

Don’t let that fool you, though – the area also houses some more serene attractions, such as a relaxation pool.
